The Story of The Leviathan's Curse
The year was 2222 and planet Earth had been in a state of peace for over a century. Society had split into a series of classes, with each creating its own ecosystems in which to live. After all the warfare and politics surrounding the early years of these factions being formed, Earth was finally living in harmony… until the gates opened.
There wasn’t a being alive who had ever seen the gate above or below open, let alone both at once. Discovered in the middle of the pacific ocean back in the 21st century, experts, scientists and military personnel had been placed on 24-hour guard to monitor the gates, but there had never been so much as a tremor. After a while, they were forgotten by the mainstream media, dismissed as nothing more than a modern marvel humans would never truly understand.
Upon the creation of the faction system, each class had built their own rig around the gate sites in the middle of the ocean. Unlike every other location on the planet, the space surrounding the gates was not owned by any one faction. It was treated like international waters, policed by any and all. And if there was one certainty amongst all of this, none of the classes had been behind the opening of the gates.
Old legends dictated that no human had the ability to open them – it was even unknown as to whether the gods or celestials held such power. It was widely believed that the gate beneath the water went to hell, and the gate below the clouds went to purgatory. Unfortunately, the opening of these pathways brought more questions than answers.
Although no physical beings had passed through the gates, the Leviathan Curse had slipped past undetected – a curse designed to hand power to a handful of chosen ones. The Leviathans, also referred to in some legends as the Old Ones, are a race of ancient beasts, the very first created by God – far older than humans, angels, and even the soul itself. However, their hunger for destruction proved to be too much for even God to handle, which is why he created purgatory and locked them inside.
In 2222, the curse had latched onto just a few people from each class, given away by a black mark on their face or shoulder. If any human refused to follow the orders of the Leviathan, they were met with intense pain… and even death.
Terror and chaos appeared to be high on the agenda of whoever, or whatever, had sent the curse. But whether it had come from above or below, the humans simply didn’t know. Some prophesied it was the beginning of the end for all life on Earth, a curse capable of bringing destruction to even gods and celestials. If that were true, the gates would surely bring answers before long…
